Is DAP Alex Plus paintable?

Yes. DAP gives a paint-ready time of 30 minutes and says it takes latex or oil-based paints. That is the reason to reach for it on trim and baseboard that gets painted the same day.

Can you sand DAP Alex Plus?

DAP does not publish a sanding method for ALEX PLUS. Its 24-hour full dry-through time does not establish when or whether the caulk can be sanded. Confirm the method with DAP before including sanding in the finishing sequence.

How do you apply DAP Alex Plus?

Apply between 40 and 100 °F. DAP limits the joint to 1/2 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep; use backer rod when the joint is deeper. The working time is 10 minutes, and the caulk can be painted after 30 minutes. DAP excludes copper and copper alloys and warns of poor adhesion to PP, PC, PMMA and PTFE plastics.

Does DAP Alex Plus shrink?

The DAP data sheet linked below gives no shrinkage result. Its ASTM D2202 vertical-sag value measures sag and cannot establish that the caulk is shrink-proof. DAP limits the joint to 1/2 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep and calls for backer rod when the joint is deeper.

Does DAP Alex Plus yellow?

The linked data sheet says nothing about yellowing. It does say the cured caulk is mould and mildew resistant. The sheet Cranco holds is the one for the white cartridge, so it names no other colour. Ask the counter and they will get DAP's answer for an exposed bead.

Does DAP Alex Plus expire?

DAP gives a shelf life of 12 months. That is the figure on the current data sheet. Take an older cartridge to the counter before you gun it.

Is DAP Alex Plus any good?

ALEX PLUS suits window and door frames, baseboards, moulding and trim, especially before painting. It can be painted after 30 minutes, has a 24-hour water-ready time and exceeds ASTM C834. DAP does not publish a percentage movement rating for joints with a specified movement requirement.

Limitations from DAP

DAP: not recommended for use on copper or copper alloys. Will not adhere well to low surface energy plastics such as PP, PC, PMMA, PTFE.

DAP: apply in temperatures between 40 °F and 100 °F. Joint size should not exceed 1/2 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep. If joint depth exceeds 1/2 inch, use backer rod material.
