Dymonic 100: green and damp concrete adhesion

Posted

The reported adhesion values, what they establish, and what you still need to check on the job.

Dymonic 100’s data sheet reports typical ASTM C794 adhesion of greater than 25 pli on green concrete and greater than 20 pli on damp concrete. Tremco also states that it adheres to damp or green concrete without outgassing. Those results support considering it for the job, but they aren’t an adhesion test of your concrete.

Keep the four concrete results separate

For concrete, Tremco reports a typical ASTM C794 result of 35 pli. After immersion, 30 pli. The other two typical results are greater than 25 pli for green concrete and greater than 20 pli for damp concrete.

The greater-than signs matter. Don’t quote the green and damp results as exactly 25 and 20 pli, or use the 35 pli concrete result for either condition. The sheet lists immersion separately; it doesn’t identify the green or damp results as results after immersion.

How green or damp is your concrete?

The supplied sheet doesn’t state the concrete age, moisture measurement, surface preparation or conditioning behind those green and damp test results. It also doesn’t provide a jobsite adhesion-test procedure. You can’t turn these values into a minimum concrete age or an allowable moisture reading from this document alone.

Don’t schedule the work until you’ve written down the concrete’s age and condition, where the joint is, the expected application temperature and any water exposure. Then ask Tremco Technical Services how to prepare the surface, what primer instructions to follow and how to check adhesion under those conditions. Before you apply the full run, get their answer.

Check temperature and water exposure

The listed application range is 4 to 37°C. Below 4°C, Tremco directs you to its Cold Temperature Sealant Application Recommendations bulletin. The separate service range of −40 to 82°C isn’t permission to apply at those temperatures.

Planning an immersed joint? Tremco describes Dymonic 100 as suitable for water immersion, but doesn’t recommend it for chlorinated, potable, heavy or waste water. Keep that restriction with the immersion result when reviewing the specification.

What to send with your enquiry

Open the [Dymonic 100 product page](/dymonic-100/) for product details. If you need help settling the choice, send Cranco the product name, concrete age and condition, joint dimensions, application temperature and expected water exposure. Ask for the current manufacturer sheet and the instructions that cover your job.
