DOWSIL 1199 Silicone Glazing Sealant
A one-part, neutral-cure RTV sealant ideal for automated glazing systems.
DOWSIL 1199 Silicone Glazing Sealant is a silicone sealant from Dow. Dow lists it for automated glazing systems, backbedding sealant on sash, cap, toe, or heel bead applications. Dow rates its movement capability at +/-25, which decides whether a moving joint is inside its range. Cranco carries it, and which counter has it on the day changes, so ask at the counter.
DOWSIL 1199 is Dow's fast-curing one-part silicone for glazing. It skins over in 4 to 7 minutes and is tack free in 20 to 30, which is what suits it to an automated glazing line. It carries ASTM C920 Type S Grade NS Class 25 Use NT, G and A, and it is AAMA certified.
Dow rates it at plus or minus 25% movement under ASTM C719 and gives excellent weather resistance from -40 to 149 °C. Cranco carries Dow at Concord, Barrie and Mississauga. Call the branch to confirm the colour and size in stock, and the price.

What is DOWSIL 1199 used for?
Backbedding sealant on sash, and cap, toe or heel bead work, in the high-speed manufacture of windows and doors. Dow names wood, vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and glass window components as the substrates it adheres to.
Is DOWSIL 1199 paintable?
Dow does not clear it for paint. Its limitations block puts surfaces that will require painting or staining on the list of places the sealant is not intended for, alongside continuous water immersion, below-grade work and insulating glass. That is the only place Dow's sheet mentions paint at all.
How fast does DOWSIL 1199 cure?
It skins over in 4 to 7 minutes by Dow's CTM 0098, and is tack free in 20 to 30 minutes by ASTM D2377. Twenty-four hours of deep-section cure reaches 0.120 inch, 3.0 mm. That skin-over window is the shortest of the five Dow products Cranco carries that publish one.
What colours does DOWSIL 1199 come in?
Ten: clear, white, bronze, beige, light bronze, gray, black, sand beige, forest green and blue/white. Dow also matches colours to order. The colour strip is below.
How is DOWSIL 1199 supplied?
Dow says cartridges, pails and drums, and publishes no volume for any of them on the sheet Cranco holds. Call the branch for the sizes it carries. Shelf life is 18 months from manufacture, stored below 32 °C in a dry place.
Can you use DOWSIL 1199 for structural glazing?
No. Dow's limitations put silicone structural glazing and insulating glass sealing outside what this product is intended for, and it may stress crack polycarbonate. DOWSIL 995 is the structural glazing silicone in this catalogue, at Class 50.
Where can you buy DOWSIL 1199?
At Cranco's counters in Concord, Barrie and Mississauga. The addresses, phone numbers and hours are further down this page.
