DOWSIL 995 Silicone Structural Sealant
A one-component, neutral-cure, elastomeric adhesive specifically formulated for silicone structural glazing and exhibits excellent unprimed adhesion to most building substrates.
DOWSIL 995 Silicone Structural Sealant is a silicone sealant from Dow. Dow lists it for silicone structural glazing and protective glazing. Dow excludes applications where the sealant will be painted; a structural-glazing joint needs its specified structural sealant. What is DOWSIL 995 used for?
Silicone structural glazing and protective glazing. Dow's sheet names coated, enamelled and reflective glass, and anodised, polyester-coated and painted aluminium profiles including Kynar, as the substrates it bonds without a primer. Dow says it has been successfully tested for protective glazing, and Cranco's page adds that its unprimed adhesion suits hurricane and impact rated windows and doors.
What is DOWSIL 995?
A one-part, neutral-cure silicone structural sealant made by Dow. It carries TT-S-001543A Class A, TT-S-00230C Class A, ASTM C-920 Type S Grade NS Class 50 Use NT G A, ASTM C1184, GB 16776-2025 and SNJF VEC, which is why Dow describes it as meeting American, Chinese and European structural glazing standards.
How long does DOWSIL 995 take to cure?
Dow lists a 10-minute skin time, 65-minute tack-free time, 7–14-day curing time at 25 °C and 50% relative humidity, and 14–21 days for full adhesion. These are typical properties, not permission to load a structural bond. Follow the project’s approved design and Dow’s installation guidance; the sheet directs installers to the Dow Americas Technical Manual, and a Dow Sales Application Engineer.
Is DOWSIL 995 paintable?
Dow does not recommend DOWSIL 995 where the sealant will be painted. TremFlex 834 is a paintable acrylic latex for general caulking, with its movement rating on its own page. It is not a substitute for a structural-glazing bond. For a painted nonstructural joint, confirm the substrates and movement requirement before choosing it.

Limitations from Dow
DOWSIL™ 995 Silicone Structural Sealant should not be applied: To building materials that bleed oils, plasticizers, or solvents– materials such as impregnated wood, oil-based caulks, green or partially vulcanized rubber gaskets or tapes; In totally confined spaces as the sealant requires atmospheric moisture for cure; When surface temperatures exceed 60°C (140°F); Where painting of the sealant is required, as the paint film may crack and peel; To surfaces in contact with food– this sealant does not comply with Federal Food and Drug Administration food-additive regulations; In below-grade applications; For use as an interior penetration fire stop sealing system; In horizontal floor joints where abrasion and physical abuse are likely to be encountered; To frost-laden or damp surfaces; For continuous immersion in water This product is neither tested nor represented as suitable for medical or pharmaceutical uses.
