Tremsil 400
Tremsil 400 is a high-performance, single-component, neutral-cure, medium-modulus silicone sealant.
Tremsil 400 is a silicone sealant from Tremco. Tremco lists it for expansion joints, general perimeter caulking of windows/doors/frames, precast and tilt-up panels. Tremco gives the application temperature as 40 °F floor (5 °C), which the product and the surface both have to meet on the day. Cranco carries it, and which counter has it on the day changes, so ask at the counter.
Tremsil 400 is a one-part, neutral-cure silicone sealant made by Tremco. It goes into expansion joints and general perimeter caulking around windows, doors and frames, and into precast and tilt-up panel joints. Tremco rates it at 40% expansion and contraction. Its data sheet gives 10 to 15 minutes of tooling time and a tack-free time of 30 to 40 minutes under ASTM C679, and its product page gives a skin time of 40 minutes at 75 °F and 50% relative humidity.

What is Tremsil 400 used for?
Expansion joints, and general perimeter caulking around windows, doors and frames, precast panels and tilt-up panels. Tremco rates it at 40% expansion and contraction, so it belongs on a joint that moves with the season.
Is Tremsil 400 paintable?
The data sheet Cranco holds prints no paintability line for Tremsil 400. Dow's sheet for its own silicone puts it plainly, that paints do not typically adhere to most silicone sealants, so treat Tremsil 400 as unpaintable until the counter confirms it with Tremco. Where the joint has to take paint, TremFlex 834 is the acrylic latex Cranco stocks.
Does Tremsil 400 hold up on an exterior joint?
On a joint that stays inside its movement class, yes. That class is the number to check, because an exterior joint moves with the season, and Tremco rates Tremsil 400 at 40% expansion and contraction for a watertight seal in expansion joints. Tremco rules it out for continuous water immersion and for structural glazing or tensile bead work, so those two jobs take a different product.
Which silicone sealant handles the most joint movement?
DOWSIL 790 is the highest Cranco stocks. DOWSIL 791, DOWSIL 795 and DOWSIL 995 follow, each with its figure on its own page. Tremsil 400 and TremGlaze S1400 are rated 40%, and DOWSIL CWS at 25 to 40%. Tremsil 200, Tremsil 600, Proglaze, DOWSIL 1199 and Silicone Plus are 25%. For a structural glazing bond, DOWSIL 995 is the one Dow builds.
What is Tremsil 600 used for?
Tremsil 600 is a separate Tremco silicone, rated at 25% movement against Tremsil 400's 40%, and Tremco lists it for in-plant glazing work such as back-bedding and cap, heel and toe beads. Cranco stocks it and its own page carries the specifications.
