Vulkem 116
Vulkem® 116 is a textured, single-component, moisture-curing, gun-grade polyurethane sealant.
Vulkem 116 is a polyurethane sealant from Tremco. Tremco lists it for expansion joints, window/door perimeters, masonry. It takes paint, so it suits trim and casing that go under a finish. Cranco carries it, and which counter has it on the day changes, so ask at the counter.
Vulkem 116 is Tremco's textured, gun-grade, moisture-curing polyurethane for expansion joints in commercial construction, poured and precast concrete, masonry and window and door perimeters. It is rated plus or minus 25% movement under ASTM C719 and carries ASTM C920 Type S Grade NS Class 25, TT-S-00230C Class A Type II and CAN/CGSB-19.13-M87.

What is Vulkem 116 used for?
Expansion joints in commercial construction, poured and precast concrete, masonry work, window and door perimeters, and construction joints of the same kind. Tremco's own reason for reaching for it is a 30-year history of primerless adhesion to porous substrates.
Can you use Vulkem 116 indoors?
No. Tremco approves it for exterior use only, and adds a second sentence to the limitation: do not use this product inside an occupied building even if there are no occupants present during use. Three Tremco sealants Cranco carries hold a Greenguard Gold certification for sensitive indoor work: Tremsil 200, Tremsil 600 and Proglaze.
Can you use Vulkem 116 in water?
Tremco's sheet says two things about water and they do not agree. Its features call the sealant suitable for certain water immersion applications; its limitations say do not use in chlorinated, potable, heavy or waste water. That rules out a pool, a drinking-water tank and a waste line, and leaves the rest for Tremco to say. Ask the counter before a submerged joint.
How long does Vulkem 116 take to cure?
Skin time is 6 hours under ASTM C679 and tack-free time is 30 hours at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity. Tremco sells Vulkem Catalyst 45/116 to speed that up where a job cannot wait.
Is Vulkem 116 paintable?
Tremco's own sentence sets the terms: although this product is paintable, this does not imply adhesion to and compatibility with all paints. It points at Tremco Technical Bulletin S-09-05, so test the paint on a cured bead before the crew coats a whole elevation.
What colours and sizes does Vulkem 116 come in?
The chart below shows sixteen colours. It comes in 300 mL cartridges, 600 mL sausages, 7.6 and 18.9 litre pails and 208 litre drums. DOWSIL 995 is the only other product here with five package sizes.
Is Vulkem 116 cleared for food plants?
Tremco lists USDA indirect food contact and CFIA acceptance among its standards, alongside a City of Los Angeles approval. Those are the entries a food-plant specification usually asks for.
